English as a Lingua Franca

English is the world's most important language for some reasons we are going to analyse:

On the one hand, English is the everyday language of most inhabitants in many countries which were former British colonies (The USA, India, Australia, Canada, Kenya...) or where British spread control at one time or another (Afghanistan, China, Egypt...). Together with this, most African states are English speaking, either to unify the country as a main means of communication between the tribes or for day-to-day business dealings.

Therefore, English is a lingua franca, that is to say, the language adopted for local communication over an area in which several languages are spoken. It is the second most spoken language of the world.
